Wikimedia CH is pleased to introduce you to Andrea Scheller, who has been our new Operational Team Lead since 8 January 2024. Andrea is a seasoned manager from the public sector in Switzerland and Liechtenstein and originally studied Human Geography at the University of Zurich as well as Society, Science and Technology at the EPFL in Lausanne.

She is experienced in the management of data-based information production and dissemination as well as in (quality) monitoring and evaluation. In all her managerial functions, she has always and readily been operationally and strategically active at the same time – mostly in small agile teams, which she has led in an integrative way.

Technical cooperation in countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus for EFTA – where she was Head of the Duty Station Luxembourg and Director of the Statistical Office – have heightened her awareness of the immense importance of public access to curated, reliable information. She is well connected in the Open Knowledge Community.

What is more, having worked at the ETH, the Swiss Federal Statistical Office and the European Commission in the field of sustainable development, with a particular focus on gender equality, social participation, global partnership and good governance, Andrea recently trained in digital ethics; an efficient and mindful approach to data and digital transformation is therefore important to her.

After many years of weekend commuting, she now lives in Zurich. She is looking forward to being actively involved in the joint development of the association Wikimedia CH in order to support what is close to her heart: free knowledge and fair digitalisation for a diverse, equitable and inclusive world!

Andrea is a native (Swiss) German speaker, is fluent in French and English and has a solid knowledge of Italian.
